So it was just a specific game error? I considered that, but didn't bother checking more games because I was assuming I was just doing it wrong.

Same as you I haven't tried any others yet, i'll do a some more tomorrow or Monday.
I must be doing things wrong. I downloaded the "artemis.elf" file from the megadownload.com or whatever link it was. I put it in the BADATA system folder on my official yellow PS2 memory card. I have a normal unmodified NTSC PS2, it's the old fat kind.
These are the games I've tried and now I believe I'm doing something wrong:
Samurai Warriors 2: Empires
Shadow of the Colossus
Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
Twisted Metal Black
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (the same one Lazy Bastard tested successfully)
All I am using is my normal fat PS2, 1 official controller, and 1 official memory card. I have uLaunchElf on my memory card and use a PS1 game to trigger it. From there, I go to the system directory on the memory card and run artemis.elf. I get the black screen that says START or X to start game, CIRCLE to load cheats, and the game is ready or whatever. I put in my game, wait 1 minute, and tried all 3 of those buttons 1 time each. When I started the game, text on the screen left and I was stuck for a black screen that never changed after 2 minutes so I tried again. CIRCLE had no visual changes, it's just that nothing responded anymore after a few minutes so I shut it off again.
How exactly do you use it? I've seen some mention about a network adaptor or something.

Have u tried the Core Launcher and PS2CC?
They work for definite. The network adapter can be used to hack codes across a network with PS2CC.

I truly have no idea of what either of those are. What exactly do other people have on their memory cards to make this work?
I just have FMCB installed on V7 but you should have no problem using the old ps1 exploit to launch uLaunchELF then one of the above Core Launcher ELF's, I don't think it's a problem on your side Bung, I think it's just that this compiled cheat system Artemis ELF simply doesn't work.
But anyway I still advise you to install FMCB over the old PS1 exploit it's much cleaner and has extra options for running elf's by holding down various button combinations whilst your ps2 boots or off the osdmenu where it'll place a title next to system configuration and browser.
I no longer use uLE to run ELF's it's simply a file manager for me now.

There's lots of mention of free mc boot everywhere on the internet, but I can't find a link to download it and don't know what the latest version is either. Every link I've found so far just led me to another search engine full of advertisements, or the page was not found. Do you know a working link to the latest version?
Would anybody know if this is the right place to get the newest version, or am I walking into trouble?

psx-scene.com is the official site of the creator's it's all there.
FMCB v1.8b is the latest. Also stay away from uLE versions above v4.30 unless your willing to run the risk of corrupting data.
Use the default FMCB v1.8b modules too don't update to the newer USBD_IRX SVN=1494
USBHDFSD_IRX SVN=1534 irx modules for me they corrupted my usb stick twice every three days it annoyed hell out me so I've reverted back to using the default modules instead and I haven't had any problems.

Would be nice if the device automatically hooked a syscall so that we would not have to use mastercodes![]()
