    Question Dig Dug II (NES) problem

    Is Dig Duh II a game that just repeats over and over, like Pac-Man? Im having trouble with cheat codes. None of them seem to work. I'm using FCE Ultra. I am asking if it repeats over and over because if it does then theres not much point in finding codes for it... :}

    Well, maybe cheat codes would help shed light on that issue. I often wondered that about old games that repeat endlessly when I was younger. Can they really go on forever? Well, we've since learned that the 255th screen of arcade Pac-Man and Donkey Kong mess up and become unplayable. So that's one possible scenario.

    A lot of Atari 2600 games loop back to the first round when you get to the end. That's another possibility.

    A third, I guess, would be if a game's difficulty reaches a certain point where it doesn't change on consecutive rounds and just keeps going like that indefinitely. But if the game is counting rounds, I'd think it would eventually have to roll over or glitch up.

    Try the nes ending faq by adamL in gamefaqs (nes hardware section) it will tell you if is an unending game.

    Thanks. Is there a difference between Dig Dug II and Dig Dug II: Trouble in Paradise? I get the impression theyre the same game, but the longer title was what it was released under in North America.

    AdamL's description: "There are 72 Rounds. When you finish Round 72 you get a screen showing ten of you enemies dancing around with the words "DIGDUG THEATER" on the screen. Then you and two of your enemies go to the center of the screen and walk off. You then go back to Round 1. This is actually a 2nd Quest, as the islands are now gray instead of green. They are identical otherwise, but the enemies seem to move faster. When you finish the 2nd set of 72 Rounds you get the same exact DigDug Theater ending and it again returns you to Round 1. The islands remain gray here, so I would consider beating the 2nd Quest as finishing the game. Some might argue that since you got the same ending the 2nd time through that beating the first 72 Rounds would be considered beating the game. I'm not one of them. Since the background changed colors I would consider the 2nd Quest as unique."

    So I guess its kind of like Super Mario Bros 1. After beating 8-4 you start over at 1-1 but the difference is there are buzzy beetles in place of goombas.

    I remember Pac-Man for NES. The last level variation you saw was on the one with the 5000-point gold key that appeared under the ghost box. Then that level just repeated over and over.
